APPLICATION

Use our HoegTemp heat pump to deliver steam, hot water or thermal oil at temperatures up to 250°C (482°F ) from any source temperature as low as -30°C (-22°F).

The output and power consumption of HoegTemp can be controlled by a factor of two in less than one second, making it ideal for grid balancing, and for utilising renewable energy.

Using helium as the working fluid, the HoegTemp operates equally well at high and low temperature lifts, unaffected by the cold. This results in less defrosting cycles and a higher efficiency.

Enerin targets the 100°C to 250°C industrial heat market across sectors to meet net-zero goals. High-pressure steam is the heat carrier used in most industrial processes for the drying, distillation and rapid heating of food and goods.

FOOD &

BEVERAGES

In food processing heat pumps significantly optimize energy use in applications such as pasteurization, drying, distillation, rapid heating and refrigeration.

In the baking industry ovens can be up to 100 metres long and consume large amounts of gas. Waste heat can be captured by heat pumps and used for preheating ovens and baking at 150°C (302°F) to 250°C (482°F).

In brewing, heat pumps are often used to recover heat at higher temperatures when the starches are converted from grains into fermentable sugars. Heating and cooling are used in the pasteurisation process.

In dairies, Enerin has previous experience with delivering both ice water and heat to a dairy plant.

PAPER & PULP

The European association representing the paper industry, Cepi, and the European Heat Pump Association have targeted the paper and pulp industry as being a significant sector to convert to heat pump technologies to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

In the drying of paper a large amount of water is evaporated. This is a highly intensive energy process used to generate heat that accounts for around 70% of the industry’s total energy demand.

The major benefit of Enerin’s HoegTemp heat pumps is their ability to reach very high-temperatures, up to 250°C (482°F), providing a good energy efficiency (COP) which the paper industry requires.

For every unit of heat supplied by electricity, several units of thermal energy, or units of heat are produced. The HoegTemp single-lift temperature delivery makes it a leading heat pump at high temperatures.

PHARMACEUTICALS

One of the primary applications of heat pumps in the pharmaceutical industry is for heating and cooling processes that are required for manufacturing and maintaining controlled environments.

Heat pumps are essential for sterilizing equipment and clean rooms, ensuring the sterility and quality of pharmaceutical products by providing the necessary heat.

The HoegTemp can recover waste heat from various processes within a facility, such as from chillers or other cooling systems.

The recovered heat can be used for hot water injection or even for maintaining comfortable working environments in the plant where it can be very cold to work.

CHEMICALS

High-temperature heat pumps can be employed in various processes in the chemical industry such as distillation, drying, and evaporation, which are typically energy-intensive.

This industry typically needs medium temperatures for drying and evaporation and high-temperatures up to 200°C (392°F) for distillation and chemical reactions.

These high-temperature applications are particularly beneficial as they allow for the recovery and reuse of waste heat, further enhancing energy efficiency.

The HoegTemp’s world-leading efficiency at high temperature lifts delivers high-energy savings without re-designing the plant and processes.

Heat pumps can be used in individual process lines to recover chemicals for zero-waste.

TALL BUILDINGS &

COMMERCIAL

Enerin is one of seven companies in the final for the Empire Technology Prize to decarbonise heat and steam for tall commercial and multi-family buildings in New York State.

The prize aims to reach the timed decarbonisation goals for low carbon heating system retrofits in buildings that account for 70 per cent of New York’s emissions. Heritage buildings are a challenge to convert. Enerin’s solutions are suitable for old and new buildings.

Using ambient air as the heat source and helium as the working fluid, the ENERIN HoegTemp heat pump can operate in a wide temperature range from -30°C to 250°C (-22°F to 482°F) without losing efficiency. It wins in temperature lifts ranging from 80°C to 100°C (176°F to 212°F) which makes it a good match for high-temperature residential heating with ambient temperature (outdoor air/ground water) heat sources, which the Empire Technology Prize targets.

The synergies of commercial and residential applications can be combined for enhanced energy efficiencies for central heating and cooling.
